This past week I had the amazing opportunity to try my hand at sewing a swim suit again. Last years attempts were ok, but I didn't feel comfortable in them. They were ill fitting and I don't even want to talk about the side boob issues I had going on. Every attempt at sewing a new project is a chance to get even better at my craft and with the help of some awesome hacks and tips I made some perfect swimsuits for myself and my little ones this year.

1. sew wider straps! last years attempts were weird in the fact that my coverstitch machine did not like sewing swim straps and when I sewed a zig zag stich it made my straps wavy and curly. It was suggested to me By Diana Rammell to sew wider straps which seems like a no duh idea right?! well it made my suits that much more professional.

2. When in doubt use a glue stick. This was genius, and the idea was given to me by other ladies in the RCF sewing strike off group. The layers stayed put and no gunk on my needles it was amazing.

3. Double layered bodice. The laguna suit from Little Lizard king pattern I used to make my daughters suit was amazing because the bodice was double layered! No odd topstitching, no coverstitch needed, no weird elastic binding problems. Just beautiful double layered goodness!

4. Buy the right cup sizes! I'm a 36 DDD and very petite everywhere else so finding a suit that fits properly without the possiblity of flashing everyone is really important to me. It was suggested to me by the ladies in the RCF sewing strikeoff group to purchase my cup pads at Wawak.com. They arrived super quick and were amazing quality. I would highly reccomend them.

These beautiful fabrics used were all from Raspberry Creek fabrics.
I used the plum solid for my suit here https://raspberrycreekfabrics.com/products/solid-plum-purple-4-way-stretch-matte-swim-knit-fabric-1-yard?fbclid=IwAR1FxNnnE35XkqkxIn2D0vecmPxI1lxWGzQXVk_HzGZH2_9DUVn3UuGJD4E

and the Blush floral here

Also if you are new to sewing swim for women i highly reccomend the womens Mairin Suit from Sew a little Seam. Great instructions, easy assembling and soooooo many options for some gorgeous self made swim suits.

My sons swim suits were so much fun to make and so easy. The seahorse boardshorts are from RCF and the pattern is the Swim Boardies from Lowland kids.
the monster swim shorts were so much fun! the pattern is the palm Euro shorts from Sew like my mom.

my daughters suit features the navy polka dot and the navy stripe seahorse swim fabric from Rasberry Creek Fabrics. All on preorder in the shop!
